When do I need subacute rehabilitation?

After a significant illness or injury, patients will endure rehabilitation to improve their overall health and well-being.

But rehab isn’t presented in only one mold. There are a variety of levels, including subacute (or SAR) rehabilitation. Subacute is typically a lower level of rehab in terms of intensity, stress, and need; and is often for patients right out of the hospital or acute rehab facility.

Through GreenField Health & Rehabilitation Center, patients can access such subacute treatment programs, designed specifically for the individual using the latest evidence-based research and direction from each patient’s physician(s). Our highly trained expert staff and state-of-the-art facilities provide the best care possible to get patients back in action and feeling good again.

But is subacute rehabilitation through The GreenFields right for you? Consider the following elements:

Type of injury

Patients who’ve suffered from a fall, injury or medical condition—such as orthopedic injuries, joint fractures or replacements, stroke or cardiac issues—are ideal candidates for SAR, and can benefit from the targeted and time-limited approach to incrementally improve functionality and mobility. All of this is meant to gradually bring patients back to their previous level of activity.

Level of rehab

Subacute rehab is typically not overly strenuous, with a focus on delicately improving functionality for those who’re trying to recover their strength after injury, their balance after a stroke, or strengthen their cardiac function after a heart attack. Workouts can last as little as 30 minutes, but are always less than three hours. The level will always depend on the patient and his or her abilities.

Type of facility

Facility needs can also determine what kind of rehab services work best for a patient. Different locales offer diverse subacute programs devised to accommodate specific kinds of patients, depending on their condition. Each patient and their family can choose the best facility based on amenities, customer ratings, or on-site experience, but it’s important to find one whose programs match up with patient need—and put that patient on the road to recovery.
