The GreenFields Continuing Care Community Groundbreaking Ceremony and 20th Anniversary Celebration
Niagara Lutheran Health System celebrated 20 years of caring at GreenField Health & Rehabilitation Center in October, 2018 and work is underway to expand the facility to better meet the demand for its healing services.
On Sunday afternoon, October 28, 2018, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the addition of 24 private rooms at GreenField Health & Rehabilitation Center at 5949 Broadway, Lancaster. The project also includes the conversion of 24 semi-private rehabilitation rooms to private rooms, maintaining the facility’s current bed count at 160.
The addition of private rooms will improve resident and family satisfaction and provide the relaxing environment conducive to healing for rehabilitation residents. Clinical studies have proven that the majority of patients prefer single rooms because of greater privacy, reduced noise, reduced embarrassment, improved quality of sleep, and the avoidance of upsetting other patients. The additional space that a private room offers will also better accommodate residents who require specialized medical equipment which takes up room space.
The Niagara Lutheran Health System began in 1956 as the Niagara Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center at 64 Hager Street on Buffalo’s East Side. In 1990, the organization also began operating the Niagara Lutheran Delaware Home at 1040 Delaware Avenue in Buffalo. Development of The GreenFields campus started in the mid 1990’s, when Niagara Lutheran’s leadership focused on developing a continuing care community where various levels of senior care would be provided on a single campus. The first phase of the project was a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center, and on October 2, 1998, 120 residents from the Niagara Lutheran Delaware Home were moved into their new home at GreenField Health & Rehabilitation Center.

The GreenFields Continuing Care Community on Broadway in Lancaster provides residential living at GreenField Manor and assisted living at GreenField Court. GreenField Terrace provides memory care and enhanced assisted living. GreenField Health & Rehabilitation Center provides 24-hour skilled nursing care, dementia care, respite care and myriad rehabilitation services.
