Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic Therapy in Buffalo, NY
Our unique aquatic therapy program is offered in our full-sized pool, maintained at 94-96 degrees and easily accessible via stairs with railings or chair lift.
Benefits of Aquatic Therapy
The benefits of aquatic therapy are immeasurable. Warm water relaxes muscles, increases circulation, reduces joint stiffness and decreases pain. The properties of water have a tremendous effect on the body. Hydrostatic pressure produces a “glove effect” to the surfaces of the body. This pressure stimulates receptors in the skin and provides a biofeedback-like effect. This in turn gives people confidence to move and exercise when fear of pain would otherwise inhibit motion. Buoyancy allows for easy joint movement. Water supports the body and reduces stress on joints so muscles can be strengthened during the healing process.
After developing your individualized rehab program, our physical and occupational therapists get into the water with you to make sure you are doing the exercises correctly.
Rapid Improvement
Aquatic therapy provides a very good workout without the pain, stress and muscle fatigue often associated with land-based exercises. Our patients see immediate improvement in the water, which has a tremendous impact on both their physical and psychological well-being. Often when our patients enter the water, it is the first time they have been pain-free in many years.
