Memory Care at GreenField Terrace
In Their Own Words
The Story: After Beth’s mother was diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, she knew that it was time for her mother to move from GreenField Manor to GreenField Terrace to receive more specialized memory care. While Beth worried about her mother, the care team and welcoming environment made it easy for mom to get the care she needs.
My mom has always been a bit forgetful – it’s something we’ve laughed about many times over the years – but when she started having difficulty remembering simple things like details about her day, we knew something wasn’t right. Hearing that mom had dementia was a big blow to take, but The GreenFields has been fully supportive and helpful in helping make sure she’s safe and receives the care she needs.
After we got mom moved, I stopped in every day to make sure she was settled and comfortable in her new space. I was concerned about making the transition to a new place, but the staff has years of experience working with residents in memory care and were great at helping her stay calm and comfortable as she got used to the Terrace.
Mom’s made some new friends as well, and she still gets to participate in different activities offered at the Terrace. She enjoys the holiday celebrations and the different activities the staff plans for each one. Even with the difficulties with her memory, she hasn’t lost her creative spark, and she has opportunities to put it to use with decorating or being a part of the different events.
I used to worry that mom’s health and her spirit would get worse, but she actually seems happier than she’s been in years. She really enjoys chatting with the other residents and the staff, sharing stories she remembers of her youth and swapping stories of her life with her fellow residents. One of the residents is a former music teacher, and she still can recall how to play dozens of songs on the piano in the living room area, bringing smiles to everyone’s faces as she plays.
The move has really been great for her, and I’m so grateful for the caring and compassionate staff and all they’ve done and continue to do for her and all the other residents.
