The GreenFields Experience: “Reflections” Volunteer Program

reflectionsListening is an act of love. Modeled after Story Corp®, a program whose mission is to preserve and share humanity’s stories in order to build connections between people and create a more compassionate world, The GreenFields Reflections program offers residents the opportunity to share memories and life experiences through the art of storytelling. The purpose behind the interactive program is to remind us that we share humanity, to strengthen and build connections between people, to teach the value of listening, and to weave into the fabric of our culture the understanding that everyone’s story matters. At the same time, we are creating an invaluable archive for future generations.

Participants in the program are encouraged to reminisce and preserve the stories of their lives on video. Reflections is a recording of a conversation between two individuals; the interviewer and the resident, or storyteller, which offers residents of The GreenFields the chance to tell their unique story and share who they are and where they came from. Resident storytellers also have the opportunity to reveal and record their hopes and dreams with those they love- because every story matters!

Responsibilities of the Reflections volunteers include facilitating storytelling opportunities by asking meaningful questions that encourage residents to share their unique journey. Volunteers visit residents and record sessions using easy-to-use video equipment.

Each storytelling session takes approximately one hour to facilitate. Training is provided onsite at The GreenFields. In order to comply with Federal and State regulations, all volunteers must receive a health screen and orientation to the facility.
