Eight Benefits of a Memory Care Community Environment

As more and more members of the population transition from home living to residential and assisted living communities, the demand for housing continues to be high. However, one segment that is increasingly in demand is memory care services.

Individuals with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease require different housing and care options than those offered in residential living or assisted living environments. At The GreenFields Continuing Care Community, we offer memory care at GreenField Terrace, providing a community environment for residents to live and thrive in the company of others. This style of living provides a range of benefits both to individuals, family members and caregivers. Let’s explore some of the benefits of the dedicated memory care housing available at The GreenFields.

Socializing and Sharing

At GreenField Terrace, residents still enjoy their privacy in individual rooms located within each home. However, the design of the memory care homes facilitates interaction and socialization, encouraging residents to chat, play games or enjoy hobbies together. Research has shown that increased social interactions can help patients with memory care conditions have an improved mood and quality of life, as Neurology Advisor reports. At GreenField Terrace, residents have that opportunity every day, but still can enjoy their privacy when they need it.

Getting Outdoors

Residents in GreenField Terrace are also able to spend time enjoying the weather of Western New York. Each of the four houses surround a central courtyard which is shared for the use of all Terrace residents. This space features benches and walking paths, as well as a garden area for residents to flex their green thumbs during the growing season. Plus, as an enclosed environment, there’s no risk of residents wandering while they enjoy the outdoors.

Comfortable, Not Clinical

GreenField Terrace also provides an environment that is unlike the traditional nursing home. Instead of a sterile or clinical feel, each memory care building is built to be more like a traditional home, with residents able to share the large living room-like spaces and community dining areas. This fosters more of a feeling of hominess and warmth and creates a more relaxed environment, which is important for those with dementia and Alzheimer’s who can more easily become stressed or confused. With these more welcoming spaces, residents can remain at ease and enjoy their time in comfort.

Activities and Events

Residents at The GreenFields also all share the ability to participate in activities offered on campus all throughout the year. This includes carnivals and concerts in the summer time, the holiday bazaar and other festivities during the colder months, and social, spiritual and musical programs, educational seminars and more offered all throughout the year. Individuals in memory care don’t have to miss out on activities – they enjoy an inclusive environment and opportunities to partake in activities they choose at GreenField Terrace.

Round the Clock Staff

GreenField Terrace’s four homes are also staffed 24 hours a day with employees who can help residents with a full range of daily living activities, aiding those who need help with getting dressed, bathing or keeping track of medications. In addition, staffing around the clock allows for immediate emergency response if an unexpected situation occurs, while also providing security and peace of mind for memory care residents.

Free Time Management

All residents in GreenField Terrace also are not only able to choose what they want to do, but also when they want to do it. Our focus is on the person – not a schedule – so residents can take meals when they like, choose whether or not to participate in activities, or spend time reading or relaxing in common spaces or their private room. That means that individuals in our memory care housing can maintain their freedom while still receiving the care and assistance they need.

Dedicated and Specially Trained Nurses

The nurses and staff that work in the four homes of GreenField Terrace are also well versed in dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, meaning that they understand the way that these conditions can manifest and cause mood swings, memory gaps and other situations that can be disconcerting to the individual or those around them. Our employees work to forge relationships with each resident, learning about them and their needs and striving to provide comfort and care to help with their memory condition each and every day.

Continuum of Care Options

Sometimes other medical conditions or concerns arise separate of memory care issues. At The GreenFields, residents have access to a full continuum of care options to help. Memory care residents can receive enhanced assisted living services to aid with mobility issues or other conditions, and those in need of rehabilitation or physical therapy can receive care at GreenField Health & Rehabilitation Center right on campus. This provides the full spectrum of care without the need to go off site to other providers or facilities, allowing residents to spend more of their time in familiar settings and environments with people they know.

The Right Home – For All the Right Reasons

At GreenField Terrace, your loved one will receive a high standard of care while still enjoying a range of activities and the freedom to live life on their own schedule. Memory care requires a specialized and dedicated approach to care, and at The GreenFields, we offer knowledgeable staff and caregivers who understand the needs of residents with dementia, Alzheimer’s and other conditions. We treat every resident like you do – as cherished members of the family.
