Judy’s Corner: A Letter From Our Guild President – November 2017

Fall Greetings to all,

Wow! The October meeting turned out awesome! Everyone helped so much and we have already accomplished so much in two months. The food was exceptional that day thanks to the staff at GHRC. An Octoberfest luncheon with sausage, sauerkraut, and German potato salad. Delish! Of course we can’t forget to thank the ladies from Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Lockport for the array of yummy, festive cupcakes. Our prayers go out to Pastor Zang, as due to a family emergency, he was unable to attend and give Devotions. But God took care of us. He gave us The GreenFields Chaplain, Pastor  David Belasic, to take his place. What a blessing! He spoke on Jesus and us, both caring heart and soul, that we are God’s disciples if we love one another.

A brief meeting was held with a vote for new projects, all approved by Mr. Koenig. It was a yes at our board meeting prior to the general meeting and then the projects were unanimously approved by the members in attendance. The first is a $5,000 donation to The GreenFields expansion to create 24 new private rooms and convert 24 existing rooms to private rooms, with ground breaking scheduled for 2018. The second project is $1,100 for new microphones for GreenField Manor, two handheld and two lapel. The third project is a $5,000 contribution towards new lobby furniture at GreenField Health & Rehabilitation Center (GHRC). Residents and their families frequently enjoy visiting in the lobby, away from the nursing areas. With that being said, our treasury will be reduced drastically.

Christmas presents are already being purchased for the residents. We have decided that on December 20th at 2:00 PM we will pass out gifts to the residents at GHRC. Next month we will have sign-up sheets for those wanting to participate. Letters are being sent out to our churches requesting funds for the gifts. Our Guild members helped with stuffing and addressing those letters, along with creating 260 handmade Christmas cards for the residents at GHRC, GreenField Terrace, and GreenField Court. What a terrific job by all! Gail Petschke and Norma Pickard had us going like one finely tuned assembly line. Thank you, ladies. It was a great day!

Our next fundraiser will be the Holiday Bazaar. It is November 11th from 9 AM-3 PM. You are still welcome to contribute baked goods. We have many that have already signed up and we have a nice variety of goodies. You can drop them off at GreenField Manor on the day of the Bazaar. We should have enough people to work our table that day. Thank you to all who volunteered. Please stop by on the 11th to donate, shop, chat, or maybe help out IF the need should arise.

Our next meeting will be held at GreenField Manor, with speakers Richard Kellman and Rich Newberg on “The New World of News”. It should be an excellent program. This is part of the University Express Life Long Learning for adults 55+, part of the lecture series being held at GreenField Manor. Our meeting will be held in the dining area of GreenField Manor, but we will then adjourn to the auditorium for this program. We will have a basket raffle that day. There is still time to donate a basket the meeting.

We will also have a basket raffle at our December Christmas meeting. Sign-up sheets for December’s raffle will be available at our November meeting.

See you on November 16th and remember to call Sally Gollmann at 836-1528 by November 9th with your reservation. As always, all are welcome!

– Peace and God’s Blessings to all!  – Judy

God’s blessings to all! We pray especially for Karen Overhoff and for the families of recently departed Guild members; Carol Dauman, June Schillinger, Herta Wittkugel and also any of our other members who need our prayers and God’s comfort.
