Greetings everyone,
It’s hard to believe summer is almost over! Everyone is getting back on track with their routines, especially with school starting up again and most vacations over. The Guild is back in gear after a two month break. We had a board meeting on August 17th, with a wonderful bring a dish to pass picnic lunch at the home of Mary Ann Young. Thank you Mary Ann for your hospitality! Mary Ann is our recording secretary and co-chair of our newsletter mailing crew. She has done an awesome job, along with volunteering on different committees for our fundraisers and offering helpful hints along the way. Kudos to you!
I’d also like to thank Gail Brown, who does an excellent job as our treasurer. She was on the committee for our Kentucky Derby and helped at both the Spring and Holiday Bazaar by baking and spending a full day at our table selling. She even donated the table vendor prize. She’s helpful and a true asset to the Guild. She also volunteers at the GHRC gift shop. When you see Gail, please congratulate her, as over the summer she married and became Mrs. Gail Myers. Many blessings to her and her husband, Bill.
At our meeting we discussed the many wonderful things happening at The GreenFields. The Terrace brought in a petting zoo for the residents, and the funds used to make this happen were from the annual gift the Guild gives each activities department. This is an example of your donations and offerings at work! Board member Sue Rojek and myself volunteered at the Terrace that day and witnessed the many smiles and a huge success.
Numerous fun on-campus activities have also been responsible for many smiles at The GreenFields. Niagara Lutheran Health System (NLHS) has hosted the Spring Bazaar, concerts, picnics, and an Alzheimer’s walk for the residents, fun-filled with entertainment and balloons. The residents all released their balloons into the sky! It was a joy to watch! I also want to mention a few happenings at NLHS. NLHS honored their volunteers with a fabulous and entertaining luncheon, featuring Quiz Master, Dennis George. Lots of laughs and fun! Consider joining the team of volunteers. The rewards are priceless! Talk to any staff or board member and you’ll be steered in the right direction.
The Holiday Bazaar is another wonderful function hosted by the Niagara Lutheran Health System. The Guild will be participating again this year with a baked goods sale. The bazaar will be held on November 11th from 9 AM– 3 PM. I hope you can help us out by baking or working the table, or perhaps just attending and supporting our sale. Once again, they will be selling raffle tickets. Each vendor is donating a prize for the raffle, so be sure to visit each table and check out their raffle prize.
As the Guild is back in session, we are already busy working on Christmas gifts for the residents and our programming for the rest of the year. St. John’s Lutheran Church on Clinton Street at Union Road in West Seneca has graciously agreed to be our host church for our Christmas celebration!
Carol Woodcock is not only our Vice President, but our program coordinator. Along with upcoming meetings, she is currently working on a tea for our May fundraiser, which will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Guild. She has done an awesome job of acquiring great speakers and entertainment. Our September meeting in no exception. Our speaker is Helen Markham, who will speak about Mt. Rushmore. A little history and a patriotic theme. It should be a fun and interesting afternoon. All are welcome! Please feel free to bring a friend, especially if he or she is a history buff! Just be sure to call Sally by September 14 with your lunch reservation. Hope to see you then!
