Establishing a home for others isn’t easy. It takes time, comfort, and trust from all involved, plus the formation of a connection that’s different for every individual. But over the past two decades, GreenField Court and Manor have provided countless retirees with this unquantifiable connection within its welcoming continuing care community. Providing assisted living (Court) and independent living (Manor) services to those residing within its more than 140 apartments, both entities have welcomed residents to pursue lives of purpose and enjoyment since first opening its doors in October 2001.
Here, Home Means More
GreenField Manor offers modern, spacious apartments designed for seniors who want to live independently—but without the hassle and expense of home maintenance and repairs. Residents have priority access to all services provided on The GreenFields Continuing Care campus. This includes rehabilitation services, wellness programs, assisted living, skilled nursing care, and memory care. Restaurant-style dining and courtesy transportation to shops and activities in the nearby heart of Lancaster are also provided. As opposed to similar residencies in the region, the Manor doesn’t require a significant entrance fee for new residents.
At GreenField Court, assisted living is available to seniors who need some help with their daily activities. Nestled within a comfortable residential setting, residents can live peacefully. They are aided by a committed staff while continuing to experience the companionship and freedom afforded across The GreenFields community.
Flexibility As Life Progresses
GreenField Manor and GreenField Court have also provided the opportunity for residents to move between the two—but remain part of the same community—as life progresses. This was something foreseen by Niagara Lutheran Health System’s Board of Directors when The GreenFields were first established.
“The concept was that seniors could move into our independent living apartment homes at GreenField Manor,” said David McMullen, Executive Director of Development & Marketing with Niagara Lutheran. “When time and age dictated that they needed additional care and services to maintain a healthy aging lifestyle, they could transition to another level of care [at Court] without leaving the campus to find a new home.
“Living at GreenField Court allows residents to have the support system of our nurses, nurses’ aides, and social workers while living a lifestyle that is as independent and homey as possible,” said McMullen. “Our families of our residents really appreciate the peace of mind they gain from knowing their loved one is receiving all of the care necessary while also benefitting from the socialization and activities so important for healthy aging.”
Reflecting on Our 20th Anniversary
Over his 16 years with Niagara Lutheran, McMullen has gotten to know many residents, their families, and the employees. He has seen the impact being a part of the Court and Manor have had on all of their lives. When recently discussing this year’s 20th anniversary with one of The GreenFields’ longer-tenured employees, the staff member noted all the memories made at both locales—from the dinner dances and holiday celebrations to shows by the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra—before remarking, “No wonder these 20 years have gone so fast. Time flies when you’re having fun.”
A welcoming community can have this timeless effect on people. It can also turn a once unfamiliar place into a location folks never want to leave. Many blossom into better versions of themselves amid their new neighbors, enjoying dinners, activities and trips offered by The GreenFields. And whether in an on-campus art class or over a cup of tea at Grace’s Place Café over the past two decades, these residents have found a destination to call home. And a fun place to live for many years to come.
